The basic website cost India small business owners should plan for in 2026 starts at about ₹3,900 to ₹7,900 in year one if you build it yourself. That covers four years of hosting on a sale plan, a free first-year domain and 18% GST. Hiring a freelancer or buying premium themes pushes the first-year bill much higher, and renewals add a recurring cost from year two.

This guide breaks down every line item: domain, hosting, email, design, plugins, the builder or freelancer choice, maintenance and GST. Then we put it together into three budget scenarios, show the renewal-year math, and list the hidden costs that catch most first-time buyers.

All Hostinger prices here come from Hostinger India’s Sale Season pricing as of 21 October 2026, on the 48-month term, excluding 18% GST unless we say otherwise. Competitor prices are cited from the sources named in each section.

Website cost India small business owners pay: the line items

A small business website has a short list of costs. Some are one-time, some are yearly, and some only show up after your first term ends. Here is the full list before we price each one.

1. Domain name cost

Your domain is your address, like yourshop.in or yourbrand.com. On Hostinger, the homepage says a free domain for 1 year is included with yearly plans. Separately, the domain search page lists .in and .com at ₹1 for the first year with eligible terms (the .com offer needs a 3-year term), and .online at ₹99 for the first year.

The cost that matters is the one after year one. Hostinger lists the regular price of .in at ₹899 and .com at ₹1,499. With 18% GST, that’s about ₹1,061 a year for .in and ₹1,769 a year for .com.

For most Indian small businesses serving local customers, .in is a sensible choice and costs less to renew. If you sell internationally, .com may be worth the extra. Our guide on how to get a free domain in India explains the legit options in more detail.

2. Hosting cost: Hostinger vs GoDaddy vs Bluehost

Hosting is the biggest fixed part of the website cost India small business owners pay when they go DIY. Here are the four Hostinger plans in Hostinger’s current sale. Prices are per month on the 48-month term, before GST, and you pay the full term upfront.

PlanSale price48-month totalWith 18% GSTRenews at
Single (1 site)₹69/mo₹3,312≈ ₹3,908₹289/mo
Premium (3 sites)₹139/mo₹6,672≈ ₹7,873₹449/mo
Unlimited₹199/mo₹9,552≈ ₹11,271₹649/mo
Cloud Startup₹599/mo₹28,752≈ ₹33,927₹1,599/mo

Every Hostinger plan includes free SSL, a CDN, free website migration, the hPanel control panel (with a Hindi option), UPI payments, GST invoices and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Hostinger also lists India among its server locations.

How does that compare? Here is what two well-known competitors list for their entry business plans.

Host and planIntro priceTermRenewalWhat’s included
Hostinger Premium₹139/mo48 months₹449/mo3 sites, domain free 1 yr, 2 mailboxes per site free 1 yr, SSL
GoDaddy Starter₹89/mo3 years₹299/mo1 site, no free domain, no email, no SSL included
GoDaddy Economy₹219/mo3 years₹599/mo1 site, free domain, email, SSL free 1 yr
Bluehost Basic₹299/mo36 monthsNot listed1 site, 5 email accounts, 50 GB, free domain

Sources: GoDaddy India figures are intro prices on a 3-year term as reported by Zoutons (read 18 August 2026); GST treatment on GoDaddy’s price cards is unclear. Bluehost India figures are from Bluehost’s own help page, which lists Basic at ₹399, ₹359 and ₹299 per month for 12, 24 and 36 months. Bluehost says special offers apply to the initial term only, and cancelling early deducts ₹1,260 for the free domain.

Notice how GoDaddy’s cheapest plan looks cheapest but leaves out the domain, email and SSL. Once you add those, the comparison changes. Our full Hostinger vs GoDaddy vs Bluehost India breakdown looks at what each costs after renewal.

3. Business email cost

An email like orders@yourshop.in looks more trustworthy on invoices and WhatsApp Business profiles than a free Gmail address. The good news is that hosting plans often include it.

  • Hostinger Single: 1 free mailbox.
  • Hostinger Premium: 2 mailboxes per website, free for the first year.
  • Hostinger Unlimited and Cloud Startup: unlimited mailboxes, free for the first year.
  • GoDaddy Economy: email included, per Zoutons. GoDaddy Starter has no email.
  • Bluehost Basic: 5 email accounts.

The catch is the phrase “free for the first year”. From year two, you may need to pay for mailboxes. We don’t have a confirmed renewal price for Hostinger’s mailboxes, so check the current rate in hPanel and add it to your year-two budget.

4. Theme and design cost

This is where budgets vary the most. You have three paths.

Free WordPress theme

WordPress has many free themes that work well for a small business. Cost: ₹0. The trade-off is time: you’ll need to set up pages, pick fonts and colours, and write the content yourself.

Paid theme

Premium themes give you more ready-made layouts and features. Prices vary widely between sellers, many are priced in US dollars, and some are sold as yearly licences rather than one-time purchases. Check which one you’re buying, because a yearly licence becomes a recurring cost.

AI Website Builder

This is the AI angle that can save real money. Hostinger’s AI Website Builder generates a website from a description of your business. You describe your idea or pick a template, edit the design, text and images, and then publish with hosting, domain and email in one place.

The builder has two modes. Manual is drag-and-drop. Agentic lets you build through chat and is meant for complex projects like stores with user accounts, membership sites and booking systems. You can’t switch modes mid-project, so choose first. It is included on Premium (250 AI credits), Unlimited (500) and Cloud Startup (1,000), and comes with tools like AI Writer, AI Image Generator, AI SEO Assistant, AI logo maker and AI Heatmaps.

For a small business owner, this replaces the most expensive part of a freelancer’s job: the first design and the first draft of content. You still need to check and edit what the AI writes, especially prices, addresses and service details. For a walkthrough, see our guide to building a website with the Hostinger AI Builder; the steps work the same for a business site.

5. Plugins cost

If you use WordPress, plugins add features like contact forms, SEO tools, booking forms and WhatsApp chat buttons. Many good plugins are free. Paid versions usually unlock extra features.

Before you buy any plugin, check what your hosting already includes. Hostinger plans come with LiteSpeed servers and the free LiteSpeed Cache plugin, free SSL and a CDN, so you don’t need to pay for a separate caching or SSL product. The AI SEO Assistant also covers basic page titles and descriptions.

A simple rule: start with free plugins, and only pay when a specific feature is costing you customers. Like themes, many paid plugins are yearly licences, so treat them as a recurring cost.

6. Freelancer vs DIY with an AI builder

The single biggest swing in website cost is whether you build it yourself or pay someone. Here’s how the two compare.

FactorDIY with AI builderFreelancer or agency
Upfront design cost₹0 beyond hostingVaries widely by scope and experience
Your timeA few evenings or a weekendBriefing, feedback and review rounds
QualityDepends on your editing and contentDepends on who you hire
Changes laterYou do them yourself, freeMay need paid support or a retainer
Best forSimple business sites, portfolios, small cataloguesCustom features, complex stores, strict brand needs

Freelancer fees in India vary widely. They depend on the number of pages, whether you need ecommerce or bookings, who writes the content, and the freelancer’s experience. There is no reliable single “average”, so get two or three written quotes with the scope listed. If the freelancer is GST-registered, their invoice will include GST on top of the fee.

When you hire someone, make sure the hosting and domain are in your name and your account, not theirs. If the relationship ends, you should still own your website.

7. Maintenance cost

A website isn’t “done” once it’s live. It needs updates, backups and occasional fixes. You can pay for this with time or with money.

  • Backups: Single and Premium include weekly backups. Unlimited includes daily backups with easy restore. Cloud Startup adds on-demand backups. If your site changes often, daily backups are worth having.
  • Updates: WordPress, themes and plugins need regular updates. This is a few minutes a week if you do it yourself.
  • Support: Hostinger offers live chat support and Hostinger Agent, an AI assistant for support and site management, on all plans.
  • Retainer: if a freelancer maintains your site, the monthly fee varies widely. Agree on what’s included in writing.

8. GST on your website costs

GST is easy to forget when you see “₹69/month” on a banner. Hostinger India prices exclude GST, and 18% is added at checkout. On a Premium 48-month plan, that’s ₹1,201 extra. On Cloud Startup, it’s over ₹5,000.

Domain renewals also attract GST. Freelancers who are GST-registered will add GST to their invoice too. For GoDaddy, the GST treatment on price cards is unclear, so check the final checkout total before comparing.

If your business is GST-registered, ask for a GST invoice. Hostinger supports GST invoices, and your CA can tell you whether you can claim input tax credit on it.

Three budget scenarios for year one

Now let’s turn the website cost India small business owners face into three budgets. Scenario 1 uses only verified prices. Scenarios 2 and 3 include assumptions, which we’ve labelled clearly. Use them as a planning template and swap in your own quotes.

Scenario 1: DIY with the AI builder (about ₹7,873 in year one)

  • Hostinger Premium, 48 months: ₹6,672 + ₹1,201 GST = ≈ ₹7,873
  • Domain: free for year one
  • Email: 2 mailboxes per website, free for year one
  • Design: AI Website Builder, included
  • SSL, CDN, weekly backups: included

This pays for four years of hosting upfront, so the effective hosting cost is about ₹1,968 a year with GST. If you only need one website and are happy with WordPress and a free theme, Single brings the upfront cost down to ≈ ₹3,908.

Scenario 2: DIY with a paid theme and plugins (about ₹17,873 in year one)

  • Hostinger Premium, 48 months with GST: ≈ ₹7,873
  • Paid theme: ₹5,000 (assumption, varies widely)
  • Paid plugins: ₹5,000 (assumption, varies widely)
  • Domain and email: free for year one

The ₹5,000 figures are placeholder assumptions for planning, not market data. Real theme and plugin prices vary widely, and if they’re yearly licences, they repeat every year. Replace these numbers with the actual prices of the products you choose.

Scenario 3: Freelancer-built (about ₹22,873 to ₹67,873 in year one)

  • Hostinger Premium, 48 months with GST: ≈ ₹7,873
  • Freelancer fee: ₹15,000 to ₹60,000 (assumed planning range, varies widely)
  • Domain and email: free for year one
  • Maintenance retainer: not included, varies widely

We’ve used a wide range because freelancer fees in India vary widely by scope, location and experience. This range is an assumption to help you plan, not survey data. A simple five-page site may fall at the lower end; a store with custom features may go well above it. Always get a written quote.

Renewal-year math: what years 2 to 5 cost

Most articles on the website cost India small business owners pay stop at year one. Here’s what happens next, using Hostinger Premium as the example.

YearWhat you payWith .in domainWith .com domain
Year 148-month hosting upfront + GST, domain free≈ ₹7,873≈ ₹7,873
Year 2Domain renewal + GST (hosting already paid)≈ ₹1,061≈ ₹1,769
Year 3Domain renewal + GST≈ ₹1,061≈ ₹1,769
Year 4Domain renewal + GST≈ ₹1,061≈ ₹1,769
4-year totalHosting + domain≈ ₹11,055≈ ₹13,179
Year 5 onwardsHosting renews at ₹449/mo (₹5,388 + GST)≈ ₹6,358 + domain≈ ₹6,358 + domain

Two notes on this table. First, we’ve assumed the domain renews at Hostinger’s listed regular price (₹899 for .in, ₹1,499 for .com) plus GST. Second, it doesn’t include email after the free first year, or any paid themes and plugins, because those depend on your choices.

Over four years, a DIY Premium site with a .in domain works out to roughly ₹2,764 a year. That’s a realistic number for budgeting, much more useful than the ₹139/month on the banner.

Hidden costs to watch for

These are the costs that don’t show up on the pricing page but do show up on your bank statement.

  • GST at checkout. 18% on hosting and domains.
  • Domain renewal. Free in year one, ₹899 to ₹1,499 plus GST after that on Hostinger’s listed prices.
  • Email after year one. Free mailboxes on Premium and above are for the first year.
  • Hosting renewal. Premium goes from ₹139/mo to ₹449/mo after the first term. Single goes from ₹69 to ₹289.
  • Missing SSL on cheap plans. GoDaddy Starter has no SSL included, and Economy’s SSL is free for one year, per Zoutons.
  • Early cancellation fees. Bluehost deducts ₹1,260 for the free domain if you cancel early.
  • Yearly licences. Paid themes and plugins sold as yearly licences repeat every year.
  • Your time. DIY is cheap in rupees but not in hours. Plan for content writing, photos and updates.

8 ways to cut your website cost

  1. Buy during the sale. Hostinger’s Sale Season runs until 14 December 2026, per its global sale page. See our Hostinger Black Friday India guide for the best plan by use case.
  2. Choose the 48-month term if you’re sure about the business. It gives the lowest monthly rate and delays renewal by four years.
  3. Use the free domain. Pick a .in if your customers are in India; it renews for less than .com.
  4. Use the included email instead of paying for a separate email service in year one.
  5. Let AI do the first draft. The AI Website Builder and AI Writer handle layout and first-draft content, which is usually the biggest part of a design fee.
  6. Start with free themes and plugins. Pay only when a specific feature is missing.
  7. Don’t overbuy. If you only need one site, Premium is enough. You don’t need Cloud Startup for a five-page business website.
  8. Get a GST invoice if you’re GST-registered, and ask your CA about input tax credit.

Steps to reduce small business website cost in India using Hostinger sale, free domain and AI builder

Which budget is right for your business?

Most small businesses in India don’t need a custom-built website on day one. A clinic, tuition centre, CA practice, bakery or local service business needs a few clear pages: what you do, prices or packages, location, contact details and reviews. A DIY site built with an AI builder on a Premium plan covers that well.

Go for a freelancer if you need custom features like complex booking flows, integrations with your billing software, or a strict brand design. Even then, you can save by drafting the content yourself with AI tools and giving the freelancer a clear brief.

If you plan to sell online, Hostinger also lists an Ecommerce Growth plan at ₹399/month on a 12-month term (regular ₹999/month) with a free .store domain for the first year. That’s about ₹5,650 with GST for the year. Check its renewal price on Hostinger’s site before buying.

If your business is GST-registered, confirm your GSTIN on the official GST portal and ask your CA whether you can claim input tax credit on hosting.

FAQs

What is the minimum website cost for a small business in India?

Using Hostinger Single on the 48-month sale term, the upfront cost is about ₹3,908 including GST, with a free domain for the first year. That’s the lowest verified figure in this guide. Single is limited to one website.

Is ₹139/month the real price of Hostinger Premium?

It’s the sale price per month on the 48-month term, before GST. You pay ₹6,672 upfront plus 18% GST, about ₹7,873 in total. It renews at ₹449/month after the first term.

Do I need to pay GST on website hosting?

Yes. Hostinger India adds 18% GST at checkout. If your business is GST-registered, ask for a GST invoice and check with your CA about claiming input tax credit.

How much does a freelancer charge for a small business website in India?

It varies widely depending on pages, features, content and the freelancer’s experience. There’s no reliable average, so get two or three written quotes with the scope clearly listed.

Can I build a business website with AI instead of hiring a designer?

Yes, for most simple business sites. Hostinger’s AI Website Builder, included on Premium, Unlimited and Cloud Startup, generates a site from your description. You then edit the design, text and images before publishing. Always check facts like prices and addresses.

What does a small business website cost after the first year?

On a 48-month Premium plan, years two to four mainly cost the domain renewal: about ₹1,061 a year for .in or ₹1,769 for .com with GST, plus email if you need more than what’s free. Hosting renews in year five at ₹449/month.

Is GoDaddy cheaper than Hostinger for a small business?

GoDaddy Starter shows ₹89/month on a 3-year term per Zoutons, but it doesn’t include a free domain, email or SSL. GoDaddy Economy, which includes them, is ₹219/month and renews at ₹599/month. Compare total cost, not just the headline rate.

The bottom line

The real website cost India small business owners face in 2026 is lower than most people expect, as long as you build it yourself. About ₹7,873 gets you four years of Premium hosting, a free first-year domain, business email for a year and an AI builder to design the site. Budget roughly ₹1,000 to ₹1,800 a year after that for your domain, and plan for the hosting renewal in year five.

If you’d rather hire help, you can still keep costs down by owning your hosting and using AI for the first draft. When you’re ready to start, grab a Hostinger plan during Sale Season and get your business online this week.
